Is Canton Tower Worth It? The ¥150, ¥298 and ¥398 Tickets Compared (2026)
Canton Tower is a genuinely good observation deck sold with a genuinely bad ticketing policy: you buy on a schedule, not on the visibility, and Guangzhou is hazy a lot. Arrive about an hour before sunset on a clear day and the ¥398 all-inclusive pass is excellent value — you get daylight, dusk and the illuminated skyline on one ticket. On a grey day, take the ¥150 base ticket or skip it entirely: the free viewpoints across the river are better photographs anyway, because they put the tower in the shot. Budget 2–4 hours, or 3–4 more if you add dinner and a river cruise.
Which Canton Tower ticket should you actually buy?

Buying ahead is typically about 10% cheaper than the gate and, more usefully, locks in the sunset slot — which is the only slot that reliably justifies the top tier.
The free viewpoints that put the tower in the photograph
This is the argument the ticket sellers cannot make: the best Canton Tower photograph in Guangzhou is taken from somewhere that is not Canton Tower, and it costs nothing.
Haixin Bridge is the definitive position. The pedestrian bridge opened in 2021 and its midpoint frames the tower head-on across the water with the CBD behind you. It is free, though at peak times it runs a timed WeChat reservation, so it is worth checking before you walk over.
Haixinsha Asian Games Park gives you the same view from ground level with more room, and the sail canopies left over from the 2010 opening ceremony are a decent foreground. Huacheng Square has a curved viewing platform facing the tower directly — arrive by 19:00 for the music fountain, and note the crowd thins noticeably after 20:30.
There is also a straightforwardly better paid option if what you want is height with the tower in view: the CTF Finance Centre at 530m and the IFC at 438m both have high-level hotel bars, both participate in the synchronised nightly light show, and both — unlike the tower — let you look at the thing everybody came to see. A drink at either costs less than the ¥398 pass.
Google Maps does not work in mainland China. It is blocked, and even over a VPN the base map is shifted by China's mandatory GCJ-02 coordinate offset and the points of interest are years stale. Is the ¥398 ticket worth it over the ¥150 one?
Only on a clear day, and mainly for the Bubble Tram rather than the extra 55 metres. The view from 433m and the view from 488m are not meaningfully different; the difference you are paying for is the transparent pod ride and the open-air deck. On a hazy day the ¥150 ticket loses you nothing at all.
What time should I go to Canton Tower?
